Savvy Creations strives to provide long-lasting, affordable jewelry. Handmade using locally-made resources when possible, here is all you need to know in order to extend the life of your jewelry!

Firstly, the materials:

All earrings are nickel free so they won't cause irritation. The hoops are made from 20 gauge stainless steel, or 14K gold-filled wire. The stud backings are made from either stainless steel or nickel-free gold colour.

The necklace chains are either sterling silver or 14K gold-filled.

The metal disks are either silver or gold plated. Again, both will not cause irritation.

The clay is polymer and is coated in protective Varathane.

The tassels are made from a variety of cotton and polyester thread!

Like all jewelry, it will eventually tarnish. Tarnished does not mean gone forever! There are tons of easy ways to remove the tarnish and return your jewelry to its original shine!

So, how can you extend the life of your jewelry? Firstly, I would recommend storing "like jewelry together." That means that jewelry made from the same metals are kept together. The earrings hoops, metal discs, and necklace chains can be wiped with a microfibre cloth to remove blemishes and return shine. It is also important that you keep them in a relatively moisture-free environment, so the washroom is not ideal! The tassels can be wet and gently de-tangled if necessary.

Taking care of sterling silver:

To remove built-up tarnish from your silver, make a thick paste with 1/4 cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons water. Apply with a damp sponge and gently rub, rinse, and buff dry. To polish gold, cover with a light coating of baking soda, use a sponge to pat vinegar on it, and rinse clean. There are TONS of other DIY ways to clean your jewelry online, take a look!

Taking care of gold-filled metal:

Oxidants are the number one enemy of gold. This can be prevented by keeping an anti-tarnish strip into the container where you store jewelry. The strip keeps oxidants at bay and your jewelry remains safe. Gold is also subject to discolouration due to make-up and/or body oils. Follow these steps to treat discolouration:

1. Take a bowl of warm water and add dishwashing soap.

2. Take a brush that has soft bristles and scrub the jewelry very gently or else it will sustain scratches.

3. Rinse off the soap residue gently with warm water.

4. Grab a soft cloth and gently dry the jewelry thoroughly and the discoloration will be gone.

Hope this helps! You are always welcome to DM or email us if you need anything replaced :)
